Sidaway\n\t\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/blog.nus.edu.sg\/alagilarabiaasia\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" itemprop=\"url\">\n\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ari.nus.edu.sg\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/csm_chuttersnap-eZHkmf010M8-unsplash_32cda614fe.jpg\" alt=\"csm_chuttersnap-eZHkmf010M8-unsplash_32cda614fe\" itemprop=\"image\" height=\"380\" width=\"1140\" title=\"csm_chuttersnap-eZHkmf010M8-unsplash_32cda614fe\" onerror=\"this.style.display='none'\"  \/>\n\t\t\t\t<\/a>\n\t\t<h3>Research Foci<\/h3>\t\t\n\t\t\t<p>In July 2022, ARI established a &#8220;Research Partnership on Asian Infrastructures&#8221; with\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dijtokyo.org\/\">The Deutsches Institut f\u00fcr Japanstudien<\/a> (DIJ) which is one of the institutes of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.maxweberstiftung.de\/en\/about-us.html\">Max Weber Foundation<\/a> (MWS). The Partnership is interested in infrastructures in a broad sense, including (but not only) knowledge networks, health infrastructures, migration infrastructures, port and other transport infrastructures, digital and financial infrastructure networks and nodes and China&#8217;s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). The Research Partnership capitalizes on and replaced the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/fass.nus.edu.sg\/max-weber-foundation-research-group-on-borders-mobility-and-new-infrastructures\/\">Max Weber Foundation Research Group on Borders, Mobility and New Infrastructures<\/a> established in the NUS Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences in June 2017. At ARI, coordination of the Research Partnership is overseen by Professors <a href=\"https:\/\/profile.nus.edu.sg\/fass\/geojds\/\">James D Sidaway<\/a> and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ari.nus.edu.sg\/people\/tim-bunnell\/\">Tim Bunnell<\/a>\u00a0and at the DIJ by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dijtokyo.org\/people\/franz-waldenberger\/?affiliation=directorate\"><u>Professor Franz Waldenberger.<\/u><\/a><\/p>\n\t\t<h3>Research Activities<\/h3>\t\t\n\t\t\t<p>In August 2023, two of the Singapore-based members of the partnership, together with other colleagues, co-organized a panel on &#8220;Explanation, critique and critics of geoeconomics&#8221; at the Annual International Conference of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rgs.org\/research\/annual-international-conference\">RGS-IBG<\/a> in London. The proceedings were published in a special section of <a href=\"https:\/\/journals.sagepub.com\/doi\/full\/10.1177\/0308518X241280007\"><em>Environment and Planning A: Economy and Space<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\nIn February 2024, the partnership participated in a two-day event on\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ari.nus.edu.sg\/events\/carbon-territories\/\"><u>Asia&#8217;s Carbon Territories: Infrastructure, Environment, and Society from the Age of Imperialism to the Climate Crisis<\/u><\/a> held at ARI and the Singapore Art Museum.\nIn May 2024, the partnership participated in a two-day event on <u><a href=\"https:\/\/ari.nus.edu.sg\/events\/causeway\/\">The Johor-Singapore Causeway: Celebrating and Conceptualising its Centenary<\/a><\/u> held at ARI.\n<p>In October 2024, the partnership organized a workshop at ARI on &#8220;The Indo-Pacific: In What Sense a Region?&#8221; to examine the (geo)political construct of the Indo-Pacific concept from historical, transregional and multidisciplinary perspectives. Moderated by Han Cheng (ARI), the panel included David M Malitz (DIJ), Priya Chacko (Adelaide), Yang Yang (NUS), and Fathun Karib (ARI).
