Dr Han Cheng commenced his appointment as Max Weber Foundation Research Fellow with the Inter-Asia Engagements Cluster with effect from 10 April 2023, as part of the Asian Infrastructures research partnership with the German Institute for Japanese Studies.
Dr Cheng has a PhD in Geography from the University of Cambridge. He is interested in the changing dynamics of international cooperation and global development, especially the role of so-called “rising powers”. His research focuses on economic diplomacy, development finance, knowledge networks, South-South and triangular cooperation, and donor transition. He worked as a policy researcher and investigative journalist before joining academia.
