CALL FOR APPLICATIONS DEADLINE: 5 JANUARY 2026
The Asia Research Institute of the National University of Singapore (NUS) invites applications from current PhD students and new PhD recipients (awarded in 2024 or after) to participate in the 21st Singapore Graduate Forum on Southeast Asian Studies. This forum is specifically focused on humanities and social science research relating to Southeast Asia, defined as ASEAN member countries.
The format of the forum comprises of two components:
- Online via Zoom (15-19 June 2026)
Skills-based sessions covering academic writing, presentation skills and publication strategies - In person at NUS (22-26 June 2026)
Guest lectures / masterclasses, and presentation of papers by participants
Successful candidates can expect the following benefits:

You will gain access to excellent library e-resources at NUS Libraries (https://nus.edu.sg/nuslibraries), that has 2 million materials and volumes covering all topics. - Exposure to seminars by various experts in the field
- Opportunity to present your research paper and receive feedback from an audience of young international scholars and senior Southeast Asia specialists
- Accommodation in NUS for six nights during the second week of the Forum (22-26 June 2026)

REQUIREMENTS & EXPECTATIONS
Successful candidates are expected to send in a full-length paper (4,000-5,000 words) by 1 June 2026, and make a presentation of their work at the 21st Singapore Graduate Forum on Southeast Asian Studies on 24-26 June 2026.
Please note that the paper must be based on your own work, and only previously unpublished papers or those not already presented elsewhere can be accepted. You are also highly encouraged to read the Frequently Asked Questions before submitting your application.
