ABSTRACT

The world has been buffeted by interlinked shocks, pressures, and transformations, which have challenged the global food system and elevated the pressure and strategic focus on food security. Our speaker will draw on diverse perspectives as a food systems pundit, ex policy staffer, (non-PhD) historian and political scientist, food and sustainability consultant, and professional futurist – poking about from different angles to unclog the “kitchen sink” on the state of global and regional food security amidst the “polycrisis”, key drivers and issues moving forward, and outlines of future scenarios for the region. He will complement this outside-in view with reflections on Singapore’s own “Food Story” journey, including the marquee “30-by-30” ambition, and the wider pursuit of Green Growth. How may Singapore do well by doing good and advance food security synergistically at home and abroad? Amid reshoring and friendshoring of critical value chains, what may a concentric, layered approach to local and regional food security look like?
