ABSTRACT

In this talk, Prof Vertovec will provide an introduction to the Max Planck Institute for the Study of Religious and Ethnic Diversity and the work of its Department for Socio-cultural Diversity. This includes an open discussion of what ‘urban diversity’ might mean conceptually, and of ways in which the topic can be researched. The talk will also entail findings from the five-year ‘GlobaldiverCities’ project on migration-driven diversification and socio-spatial patterns in New York, Johannesburg and Singapore (see http://www.mmg.mpg.de/subsites/globaldivercities/about/ ).
