This workshop is a way of acknowledging the many strands of Professor Michael Douglass’s research and issues central to his concerns while he has been with us at ARI. We hope this event can allow you to provide reflections on the themes we have identified within the workshop frame of the city in time and space. The overarching concept for the workshop is that while the key issues each of us selects have contextual specificities at particular moments and places, more general processes are also at play that invite us to extend our discussions together comparatively across disciplines and over a long sweep of time of urbanization in Asia.
