‘Talent’ Migration in and out of Asia: Challenges for Policies and Places

Talent migration is an emergent research topic, as many countries turn to high-skilled talent for economic development while globalization has opened up immense opportunities for skilled individuals to work and live as expatriates. Such migration, however, poses issues of economic competition, cross-cultural adjustments and social integration. This conference is a first step towards initiating research on this new area of study, exploring the economic, social, cultural and socio-psychological issues of global talent migration in Asia along three themes: the attraction of places and policies; socio-psychological dimensions of talent management, and cultural politics of everyday encounters.
