Professor Tim Bunnell
Asia Research Institute
Director's Message
Now well into its third decade, the Asia Research Institute (ARI) is among the world’s foremost centres for academic research on Asia. By bringing together scholars working across the social sciences and humanities, and providing a platform for collaboration with other fields, the Institute forms a vital space for Asia-focused interdisciplinary research. The location of ARI at NUS, one of the Asia-Pacific region’s premier universities, and of NUS itself in Singapore – a long established hub for movements of people and ideas – provides us with an incomparable institutional and geographical home for research on Asia.

Board of Management
Chair's Message
ARI has made significant strides in advancing knowledge about Asian societies since 2001. Through international collaborations and world-class research, we have established ourselves as a renown hub for addressing the latest intellectual questions and most pressing issues concerned with the region.
ARI’s contribution to knowledge about Asia becomes even more urgent and relevant in our increasingly polarized yet interconnected world. Facilitating dialogue, building networks and promoting interdisciplinary inquiries are ever more essential to promoting mutual understanding and nurturing scholarship that could lead to innovative ideas and solutions.
