ARI thanks Professor Chong Chi Tat
After nearly twenty years of dedication and exceptional leadership, Professor Chong Chi Tat will step down as Chair of the Asia Research Institute's Management Board this month.
Throughout his tenure, Professor Chong's commitment to excellence has been instrumental in driving ARI's success. His leadership not only raised the institute's international profile but also cultivated a culture of collaboration, innovation, and academic rigour.
"Under Professor Chong's guidance, ARI has thrived as a dynamic center for interdisciplinary research on Asia, drawing scholars from across the globe and generating groundbreaking insights into this diverse region," remarked ARI Director Professor Tim Bunnell.
Professor Chong's journey at the University of Singapore began in 1974 as a lecturer, steadily advancing to become the second University Professor at NUS. His many university leadership roles have included serving as Provost, and as director of the Institute for Mathematical Sciences.
Professor Chong was honored with the Pingat Pentadbiran Awam - Emas (Public Administration Medal - Gold) in Singapore's National Day Awards 2002 and has been a Fellow of the Singapore National Academy of Science since 2011.
As we prepare to welcome Professor Joanne Roberts, President and Professor of Social Sciences (Economics) at Yale-NUS College as ARI’s next chair, we extend our gratitude to Professor Chong for his exceptional leadership and vision. His legacy will continue to inspire us in ARI's next chapter.
