As temperatures rise, Indonesia’s water sharing can prevent transboundary haze

Dr Michelle Ann Miller of the Asia Research Institute at National University of Singapore (NUS), and Ms Zu Dienle Tan, PhD candidate at the Department of Geography at NUS Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, opined that both water and fire knowledge must be shared in ways that are inclusive of peatland communities if governance efforts to deal with predicted El Nino conditions are to succeed. As a starting point, existing water-sharing arrangements between companies and communities that incubate dry season hotspots must be pushed towards fairer resolution.
