Inaction against Vigilantes, Indonesia in Auto-pilot Mode
In this article contribution, Dr Al Makin, Visiting Research Fellow at the Asia Research Institute at NUS, discussed the state of Indonesia after authoritarian ruler Soeharto was dethroned. He highlighted that new groups of Islamic vigilantes or thugs led by habibs are mushrooming in Jakarta to intimidate the Indonesian public and that the government is on an auto-pilot mode and inactive against the vigilantes.
