Ms Lee Chyen Yee commenced her appointment as a Research Associate with the Religion and Globalisation Cluster with effect from 1 July 2024.

She has master’s degrees in economics from NUS and Singapore Management University, and in journalism from Columbia University.
At ARI, Ms Lee will be delving into the history and networks of Chinese businesses in colonial Singapore. Her other research interests lie mainly in economics and political economy in China and Southeast Asia. Besides conducting research, she also lectures part-time at SUSS on economics-related modules. Before venturing into academia, she was a journalist with Reuters for 20 years, mainly in China, Taiwan and Hong Kong, where she witnessed sweeping political and socio-economic changes in the region.
