Asian Migration

Dr Loïs Bastide commenced his appointment as a Visiting Senior Research Fellow in the Asian Migration Cluster with effect from 1 September 2022.

Dr Bastide has a PhD in Sociology from Ecole Normale Supérieure de Lyon (ENS Lyon) and is currently Associate Professor of Sociology at the University of French Polynesia (UPF). He is also Research Fellow at the Research Institute on Contemporary Southeast Asia (IRASEC, CNRS/FMFA). Since 2005, he has worked extensively on transnational migration in Southeast Asia (Singapore, Malaysia, and Indonesia). He is also interested in the issues of risks, public health emergencies, as well as violence in the family sphere. While at ARI, he will develop his research project, Re-politicising Transnationalism: Migrant Women and Migrant Politics between Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore, which aims to develop political sociology of transnational labour across the three countries, through the specific lenses of Indonesian migrant women.
