Dr Wei YANG commenced her appointment as Postdoctoral Fellow with the Asian Migration Cluster with effect from 3 April 2023.
She received her PhD in Sociology from Nanyang Technological University. Her PhD thesis examined the situations and lived experiences of mainland Chinese female migrant workers in the manufacturing and service sectors in Singapore. As a feminist migration scholar, she is particularly interested in examining the entangled relationships between gender and socio-spatial mobilities, between the global and the intimate. Her work has been published in journals such as Pacific Affairs, Gender, Place & Culture, and Journal of Ethnic and Migration Studies. She has also expanded her research interests to middle-class immigrant mothering based on her recent fieldwork in Singapore. At ARI, she will develop her PhD thesis into a book. She will also be involved in an ongoing project on cross-national families in Singapore.
