The collection of seven research articles in this special issue offers empirical and nuanced perspectives on the concept of faith in immunity in order to go beyond this reductionist discourse and interrogate the complex interplay between COVID-19 immunity and preexisting structures of trust, cosmologies of protection, and epistemologies of healing. In the context of the global COVID-19 pandemic, the topic of vaccination has led to debates on the ethics of responsibility, individual freedom, and global inequality. In this special issue, we extend those topics by also exploring the various cosmologies and conceptualisations of immunity mobilised in understanding and responding to the COVID-19 pandemic.
