Dr Max Jakob Fölster commenced his appointment as a Visiting Senior Research Fellow with the Inter-Asia Engagements Cluster with effect from 12 January 2024.
Dr Fölster obtained an MA (Sinology, History) and DPhil (Sinology) from Hamburg University. He is the representative of the Max Weber Foundation in Beijing and has been engaged in Sino-German academic exchange for many years. His main areas of research are manuscript studies, history of the Han Dynasty, history of libraries and book-collecting in China, history of Sino-German cultural and academic exchange, and history of German Sinology.
