Working Paper Series

The ARI Working Paper Series (ARI WPS) is an online repository of Asia-focused research papers in the Social Sciences and Humanities. From its inception in 2003 until 2019, when the Series was turned into an open access archive and absorbed into ARIscope, 269 ARI WPS papers were published by ARI research fellows and visiting scholars. While some of these working papers were subsequently developed for publication as journal articles or adapted as book chapters, many others remain here as their final publication home. The papers contained herein speak to wide-ranging topics related to all of the major themes of ARI’s research clusters around urban studies, migration, changing families in Asia, identities, religion and historical and literary works. We hope you enjoy this collection that forms an integral part of ARI’s rich institutional record.

While all ARI WPS papers are open access and free to download, please properly reference any contents of these papers that are used in other publications by citing the author, year of publication, title of publication and number of the ARI WPS paper.
